R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Those Texans who give freely of their time and |
|
talents to benefit the larger community make the world a better |
|
place through their actions, and Randal G. Rockett of Katy, who |
|
passed away on October 14, 2012, was indeed one such person; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on December 6, 1930, Mr. Rockett spent his |
|
childhood on a farm near Red Oak before moving with his family to |
|
Dallas; he excelled in his studies and in the ROTC program at Sunset |
|
High School, and following his graduation, he served with the U.S. |
|
Army in France; and |
|
WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life in 1953, Mr. Rockett |
|
began a notable career with AT&T that spanned nearly three decades; |
|
his employment in the plant, marketing, and sales departments took |
|
him to Houston, New York City, Kansas City, and Minneapolis before |
|
his retirement from the corporation in 1982; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Rockett went on to work with Nimmons Real Estate |
|
in Houston before establishing his own real estate and development |
|
company, RR Professional Services; dedicated to lending a helping |
|
hand, he shared his expertise with a number of neighbors and small |
|
businesses; he also taught classes at Houston Community College, |
|
where he assisted in creating a real estate program, the business |
|
steering committee, and seminars for individuals displaced by |
|
Hurricane Katrina; and |
|
WHEREAS, This valued civic leader further gave back to his |
|
community through his efforts to establish the Academy for Lifelong |
|
Learning, an initiative for senior citizens; he was also active in |
|
the Boy Scouts of America, playing an integral role in the creation |
|
of Troop No. 925, and in the YMCA, which he served in a number of |
|
significant capacities; in addition, his contributions were vital |
|
to the Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center, the Cinco Ranch |
|
developmental water boards, and Katy Christian Ministries; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of faith, he helped to found Grace Fellowship |
|
United Methodist Church, and he greatly benefited the congregation |
|
as its first board chair; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Rockett enjoyed the |
|
love and support of his wife, Marilyn, whom he met on a blind date in |
|
1953; over the course of their nearly six decades together, the |
|
couple were blessed with three children, Randy, Wes, and Lori, and |
|
two grandchildren, Kyle and Kelcie; and |
|
WHEREAS, Randal Rockett led a life rich with accomplishment, |
|
and his dedication to Katy made a lasting, positive difference; |
|
although he will be deeply missed, he will long be remembered with |
|
admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Randal G. Rockett |
|
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Marilyn Rockett; to his sons, Randal Rockett, Jr., and Wesley |
|
Rockett; to his daughter, Lori Rockett; to his daughters-in-law, |
|
Jean Ann Rockett and Joanne Osborn; to his grandchildren, Kyle and |
|
Kelcie Rockett; to his brothers, Kermit Rockett and Terry Rockett; |
|
to his sister, Evelyn Pearson; and to his other relatives and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Randal G. |
|
Rockett. |
