R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Colonel Carol L. Anderson retired from the U.S. Army |
|
on January 31, 2013, drawing to a close an exemplary military career |
|
that has spanned nearly three decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, After joining the army as a private in 1984 at the |
|
age of 17, Ms. Anderson graduated from Officer Candidate School in |
|
1989 as an engineer officer; she has distinguished herself since |
|
then in a wide variety of assignments, including service as a heavy |
|
equipment platoon leader in Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Operations |
|
Desert Shield and Desert Storm and as an S3 operations officer in |
|
Somalia during Operation Continue Hope; she went on to become the |
|
first woman to teach boxing at the U.S. Military Academy at West |
|
Point, where she was on the staff of the Department of Physical |
|
Education; and |
|
WHEREAS, Colonel Anderson returned to Iraq as the commander |
|
of the 46th Engineer Combat Battalion during Operation Iraqi |
|
Freedom; she has also seen duty as a geospatial engineer in Hawaii |
|
and as an engineer combat battalion executive officer in the |
|
Pacific, and she served as the deputy topographic engineer in the |
|
Office of the Chief of Engineers at the Pentagon and as secretary of |
|
the general staff at headquarters of the U.S. Army Corps of |
|
Engineers in Washington, D.C.; she retired as the deputy commander |
|
for transformation at Fort Sam Houston, where she simultaneously |
|
served as the army lead for Base Realignment and Closures and Joint |
|
Base San Antonio; and |
|
WHEREAS, Along the way, Colonel Anderson has earned a |
|
bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Colorado and |
|
a master's degree in education from the University of Georgia; her |
|
military education includes Officer Candidate School at Fort |
|
Benning, the Engineer Officer Basic Course and the Army Force |
|
Management School at Fort Belvoir, the Engineer Officer Advanced |
|
Course at Fort Leonard Wood, and the Combined Arms and Services |
|
Staff School and the Command and General Staff College at Fort |
|
Leavenworth; and |
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding soldier has been recognized with |
|
numerous awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, the |
|
Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service |
|
Medal with five oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with |
|
two oak leaf clusters, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Army |
|
Achievement Medal, and the Silver and Bronze Orders of the de Fleury |
|
Medal, as well as the Combat Action Badge and both the Air Assault |
|
and Parachutist Badges; in 2013, she was inducted into the Engineer |
|
Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame; and |
|
WHEREAS, Colonel Carol Anderson is the proud and devoted |
|
mother of two children, Kelvin and Kenedy; and |
|
WHEREAS, Colonel Anderson's expertise, professionalism, and |
|
commitment to the mission of the U.S. Army have greatly benefited |
|
her nation and earned her the respect and admiration of her fellow |
|
soldiers, and she may indeed reflect with a great sense of |
|
accomplishment on her military career as she embarks on the next |
|
exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Colonel Carol L. Anderson on her |
|
retirement from the U.S. Army and extend to her sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Colonel Anderson as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
