R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Many dedicated social work professionals, including
  members of the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Social
  Workers, are gathering in Austin on March 5, 2013, to celebrate
  Texas Social Work Advocacy Day, as part of a month-long observance
  honoring the contributions of this vital occupation; and
         WHEREAS, Each day, social workers address the emotional,
  psychological, economic, and physical needs of millions of people;
  they assist clients from all communities and in every stage of life
  with a wide range of psychosocial services, helping them to
  function better in their environments, solve their personal
  problems, and improve their relationships with others; and
         WHEREAS, With roots going back more than a century, the
  social work profession has played an instrumental role in the
  advancement of civil and human rights in the United States and the
  rest of the world; modern social workers continue to advocate for
  fairness and increased access to resources that benefit the most
  people, while working to create pathways to full participation in
  society; and
         WHEREAS, Due to the increasing need for health and support
  services, social work is one of the fastest-growing professions in
  the country; social workers are employed in many different
  industries and organizations, including public and private
  agencies, hospitals and hospices, schools and universities,
  businesses and foundations, and military branches and veterans
  centers, as well as in local, state, and national elected offices;
  and
         WHEREAS, By empowering others to use their strength and
  resilience to navigate life's challenges, these dedicated
  professionals have made a positive difference in the lives of many,
  and they are richly deserving of our gratitude and commendation;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March as Social Work Month and extend
  a warm welcome to all those present on the occasion of Social Work
  Advocacy Day on March 5, 2013; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Texas Chapter of the National Association of
  Social Workers as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
  Representatives.
