R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Citizens of Jefferson and Orange Counties are
  gathering in Austin on March 3-5, 2013, to celebrate Golden
  Triangle Days at the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Hundreds of visitors from throughout this
  energy-rich and culturally unique region, anchored by the cities of
  Beaumont, Orange, and Port Arthur, have come to meet with state
  officials to express appreciation for their work and to inform
  lawmakers of opportunities to further strengthen these
  communities; and
         WHEREAS, With more than $20 billion worth of recent and
  upcoming energy-related investments, Jefferson and Orange Counties
  are making significant strides toward meeting the energy and
  chemical manufacturing needs of the state, country, and world; the
  area is home to the nation's largest oil refinery and to the
  Sabine-Neches Waterway, the fourth-largest ship channel in the
  country in tonnage and a vital asset to both the regional economy
  and the national energy and military transportation network; in
  addition to supporting the area's major ports, the waterway links
  to an extensive rail and pipeline system that supplies fuel to
  communities far and wide; and
         WHEREAS, The educational needs of the Golden Triangle are met
  by such fine institutions as Lamar University, Lamar State
  College--Orange, Lamar State College--Port Arthur, and the Lamar
  Institute of Technology, as well as many other education and
  training resources that provide the area with a workforce-ready
  population; and
         WHEREAS, Reflecting its distinctive contributions to the
  history and culture of Texas, this proud region boasts a number of
  popular tourist attractions, including the Texas Energy Museum, the
  Art Museum of Southeast Texas, and Gator Country Adventure Park,
  and each spring the city of Beaumont hosts the South Texas State
  Fair; those looking to explore the natural wonders of the area can
  enjoy the sights and recreational activities of the Shangri La
  Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, the Big Thicket National
  Preserve, and the McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge; and
         WHEREAS, The public-spirited citizens of the Golden Triangle
  are at work building a bright future for their region, and it is
  indeed a pleasure to acknowledge their dedicated efforts in behalf
  of their communities and the state at large; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March 3-5, 2013, as Golden Triangle
  Days at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
  delegation.
