R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The decisive actions of Coleman Pollock of Sweeny |
|
and Alisha Trevino of Bay City on March 17, 2012, helped rescue an |
|
11-year-old girl from drowning; and |
|
WHEREAS, Coleman Pollock, age 17, and Alisha Trevino, age 14, |
|
were spending their last weekend of spring break at Matagorda Beach |
|
with Ms. Trevino's family; as the two teenagers walked past the |
|
jetty pier, a young girl alerted them that her friend was missing; |
|
after searching the area, they were unable to find her and looked to |
|
the water; and |
|
WHEREAS, High waves hid the young girl at first, but when they |
|
finally spotted her, both Mr. Pollock and Ms. Trevino selflessly |
|
jumped into the rough, deep water and swam toward her; Mr. Pollock |
|
reached the young girl first, and, exhausted and frightened, he was |
|
unsure he had enough energy to return to shore; thinking quickly, he |
|
warned Ms. Trevino of the dangerous conditions and asked her to come |
|
no farther; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Pollock and his young charge held on and finally |
|
reached a sandbar, where the two could rest and he could walk for a |
|
moment, keeping the child's head above water, before heading back |
|
into the waves; thankfully, everyone in the water slowly and safely |
|
returned to the beach where their families and a crowd of onlookers |
|
awaited; and |
|
WHEREAS, Coleman Pollock and Alisha Trevino responded to a |
|
critical situation with selflessness and courage, and as a result |
|
of their efforts, a tragedy was successfully averted; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Coleman Pollock and Alisha Trevino for |
|
their heroism in saving a young girl from drowning and extend to |
|
them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared |
|
for Mr. Pollock and Ms. Trevino as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
