H.R. No. 661

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, For the Love of the Lake is a volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of White Rock Lake Park in Dallas; and

WHEREAS, Formed in 1995, this group of civic-minded volunteers celebrated a notable milestone on November 10, 2012, when it marked its 200th consecutive Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce-Up, and it started off this year with a January 12th event, "Trees Please--Reforestation for the Next Generation," which brought out more than 400 people to plant trees; and

WHEREAS, The organization has raised over $1 million for features and amenities around the park, including a new playground, outdoor fitness circuits, information kiosks, benches, native plant gardens, trash and recycling receptacles, and drinking fountains; moreover, members helped create the White Rock Lake Museum and oversaw the placement of two Texas Historical Markers; and

WHEREAS, Participants in For the Love of the Lake have rendered exceptional service that greatly benefits Dallas residents, and they indeed merit special recognition for helping to ensure that the White Rock Lake Park will remain a treasured urban oasis for years to come; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby commend For the Love of the Lake on its work to preserve and enhance White Rock Lake Park in Dallas; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the group as an expression of high regard and best wishes by the Texas House of Representatives.
