R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Gainesville has been recognized by Rand McNally and
  USA Today as the most patriotic city in America; and
         WHEREAS, Participating in a highly competitive process,
  Gainesville was chosen from among 700 cities seeking recognition in
  the Best of the Road contest; one of six finalists in the most
  patriotic category, it won the title after Best of the Road judges
  visited the cities, observed the respect that Gainesville residents
  show for this nation in their everyday lives, witnessed the town's
  amazing parade honoring veterans, and appreciated the downtown
  displays of red, white, and blue; and
         WHEREAS, Gainesville has a deep connection with the military
  that dates back to World War II, when the United States Army chose
  it as the location for Camp Howze; named after Medal of Honor
  recipient Robert Lee Howze, the camp trained infantry soldiers
  essential to the war effort and provided job opportunities for the
  local population; and
         WHEREAS, Patriotism has remained an integral part of life in
  Gainesville since that time; the Medal of Honor Park at its entrance
  welcomes all past and present service members into the city, and
  every year, residents fund visits by Congressional Medal of Honor
  recipients from around the country; and
         WHEREAS, By honoring those who have made immeasurable
  sacrifices for the safety and security of our nation, the city of
  Gainesville and its residents set an inspiring example for this
  state and nation, and all involved in fostering this culture of
  patriotism are indeed deserving of special tribute; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Gainesville on its selection by
  Rand McNally and USA Today as the most patriotic city in America;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the city of Gainesville as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
