R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, For 80 years, families have come together to |
|
|
celebrate their faith at St. Luke "Community" United Methodist |
|
|
Church in Dallas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1933, St. Luke is now one of the |
|
|
largest predominantly African American churches in United |
|
|
Methodism, with some 5,000 members; parishioners of the church |
|
|
support a wide range of ministries, which offer opportunities for |
|
|
spiritual growth, fellowship, and community outreach; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The church is served by a dedicated staff and ably |
|
|
led by the Reverend Dr. Henry L. Masters, Sr., who assumed the |
|
|
office of senior pastor in July 2012; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church has |
|
|
long been a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship |
|
|
there, and its continued existence is a tribute to the unwavering |
|
|
commitment of its members, both past and present; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor St. Luke "Community" United Methodist |
|
|
Church on the 80th anniversary of its founding and extend to all |
|
|
those associated with the church sincere best wishes for many more |
|
|
years of shared prayer and fellowship; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
