R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Many proud residents of Dallas are gathering in
  Austin on March 6, 2013, to celebrate City of Dallas Day at the
  State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1841 and formally incorporated in
  February 1856, Dallas is now a leading business and meeting center
  with more than 1.2 million people, and in 2012, nine Fortune 500
  companies were headquartered there; the city has a broad economic
  base, with diverse industry clusters that include building design,
  construction, IT services, telecommunications, and food
  manufacturing, and a number of health systems have large and
  prestigious medical centers in Dallas, among them The University of
  Texas Southwestern Medical Center of Dallas and Baylor University
  Medical Center at Dallas; and
         WHEREAS, A destination for leisure activities, Dallas offers
  premier shopping and dining destinations along with world-class
  cultural amenities; the Dallas Arts District includes such
  outstanding facilities as the Dallas Museum of Art, the Morton H.
  Meyerson Symphony Center, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the AT&T
  Performing Arts Center, as well as Klyde Warren Park, a unique urban
  green space; the newly opened Perot Museum of Nature and Science in
  nearby Victory Park offers inspiring and educational exhibits for
  curious minds of all ages, while the Sixth Floor Museum in Dealey
  Plaza tells the story of the life, legacy, and tragic death of
  President John F. Kennedy; and
         WHEREAS, The quality of life in Dallas is also enhanced by
  such amenities as the Dallas Zoo, the Dallas World Aquarium, the
  Dallas Arboretum, and Fair Park, which is home to the Texas State
  Fair and Cotton Bowl Stadium; fans of both the Dallas Mavericks and
  Dallas Stars flock to the award-winning American Airlines Center,
  which is also one of the nation's premier concert arenas, and the
  central hall of the Dallas Convention Center is the largest
  column-free exhibition space in the nation; the spectacular Reunion
  Tower is perhaps the city's most recognizable landmark, while the
  new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge across the Trinity River is a striking
  addition to the city's skyline; additionally, White Rock Lake and
  the Katy Trail bicycle and pedestrian path are two of the city's
  many urban recreational oases; and
         WHEREAS, Named one of the best cities for new college grads by
  a number of publications, Dallas ranks as one of the most affordable
  cities among the nation's largest; it is well-served by
  transportation infrastructure, offering businesses easy access to
  global and local markets, and with 40 new miles of track added in
  the last three years, Dallas Area Rapid Transit is one of the
  largest light rail networks in the United States; and
         WHEREAS, City officials have helped Dallas win notice for its
  environmental measures; 40 percent of its power is renewable
  energy, primarily wind power, and it was one of the first major U.S.
  cities to pass a comprehensive green building standard for both
  residential and commercial buildings; with the encouragement of its
  leaders, residential recycling increased over 300 percent in just
  three years; and
         WHEREAS, In concert with the City of Dallas, the Dallas
  Regional Chamber is working to increase economic development and
  improve the quality of life in Dallas by promoting
  business-friendly policies and making public education a top
  priority; its mission is not only to help make Dallas prosperous,
  but also to make it one of the most desirable cities in which to live
  and work in the United States; and
         WHEREAS, Dallas has adopted the motto "Live large. Think
  big.", and residents can indeed take pride in the many ways their
  hometown exemplifies that expansive and forward-looking spirit;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March 6, 2013, as City of Dallas Day at
  the State Capitol and extend to all Dallas residents here today
  sincere best wishes for an enjoyable visit to Austin.
