R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The residents of Marshall lost one of their most
  esteemed community leaders with the passing of Thomas L. Whaley on
  February 7, 2012, at the age of 82; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Paul and Margaret Whaley, Tommy Whaley
  was born in Waco on December 20, 1929; he attended Marshall High
  School and was an active member of the Boy Scouts; he enrolled in
  The University of Texas at Austin School of Business Administration
  before joining the United States Naval Air Reserve; he graduated
  from the University of North Texas in 1951; and
         WHEREAS, Two years later, Mr. Whaley married Patricia Pope,
  and over the course of nearly six decades together, their lives were
  further enriched by the addition of three sons, Thomas, Benjamin,
  and George; and
         WHEREAS, A proud fourth-generation citizen of Marshall, Mr.
  Whaley managed Logan and Whaley Co., an industrial hardware company
  begun by his great-grandfather; he was an original member of the
  Marshall Economic Development Board, and he was instrumental in
  encouraging many firms to come to the city; he received numerous
  accolades for his work, including the 1998 Citizen of the Year Award
  from the Marshall Chamber of Commerce, the Road-Hand Award from the
  Texas Department of Transportation, and the Volunteer Industrial
  Developer of the Year award from the Texas Industrial Development
  Council; in 2001, he was appointed to the Texas Department of
  Economic Development Governing Board and he also served as a member
  of the Wiley College Board of Trustees; moreover, he was appointed
  by Governor George W. Bush to the Texas State Technical College
  Board of Trustees, and he remained an active member of the TSTC
  family for many years; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his involvement in the economic
  development of Marshall, Mr. Whaley was a devoted Episcopalian
  throughout his life; a valued member of Trinity Episcopal Church,
  he supported Trinity Episcopal School; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his family, faith, and
  community, Tommy Whaley made a meaningful difference in the lives
  of his loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions
  will be remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Thomas L. Whaley and
  extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Patricia Pope Whaley; to his sons, Thomas L. Whaley and his wife,
  Teresea, Benjamin Pope Whaley, and George Prendergast Whaley and
  his wife, Annemarie; to his grandchildren, Heather Augustine and
  her husband, Mitch, Starr Minatrea and her husband, Russell, Wesley
  McDaniel and his wife, Chelsea, Chris McDaniel, and Cas Whaley and
  his wife, Georgia; to his great-grandchildren, Jolie, Sawyer,
  Brandon, Dylan, Ashleigh, and Lilly; to his brother, Paul "Pete"
  Whaley; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
  of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Thomas
  Whaley.
