R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Since our nation was attacked on September 11, 2001, |
|
courageous fire and rescue workers, military personnel, and law |
|
enforcement officers have dedicated themselves to safeguarding our |
|
families, our liberty, and our future; sadly, some suffer |
|
debilitating injuries and illnesses due to the nature of their |
|
extraordinary service; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Operation American Heroes Foundation provides |
|
financial assistance for nonprofit organizations that deliver |
|
physical and emotional support to first responders, former and |
|
current military personnel, and others who perform vital work in |
|
behalf of the public; founded by Houston businessman and Vietnam |
|
War veteran John Carloss, the foundation raises funds to benefit |
|
such groups as the PTSD Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project, |
|
Disabled American Veterans, and the USO; and |
|
WHEREAS, Each year in conjunction with the September 11 |
|
anniversary, the foundation sponsors American Heroes Week, during |
|
which businesses can donate a percentage of their profits to aid |
|
this worthwhile cause; in addition, the event serves as a means of |
|
encouraging individuals to join the 21 Gun Salute Project by making |
|
an annual pledge; this support is then distributed nationally, |
|
helping to ensure that the recipient organizations can continue |
|
performing their important work; and |
|
WHEREAS, Citizens of our state and nation owe an eternal debt |
|
of gratitude to the brave men and women who defend our country |
|
abroad and our safety at home, and this outstanding event provides |
|
an opportunity to recognize their valiant service and to assist |
|
those heroes who need a helping hand; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize September 8 through 14, 2013, as |
|
American Heroes Week in Texas and express profound gratitude to |
|
these dedicated patriots for their service; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
