R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 8 in Dallas boasts a |
|
long record of commendable service, and members of the troop are |
|
gathering at the Capitol on March 13, 2013, to celebrate the 100th |
|
anniversary of the troop's founding; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chartered by Oak Cliff United Methodist Church in |
|
1913, Troop 8 is the oldest continuously functioning troop within |
|
Circle Ten Council; over the years, the troop has touched the lives |
|
of countless boys by providing an educational program that builds |
|
character, develops personal fitness, and trains youth in the |
|
responsibilities of citizenship, and its many distinguished alumni |
|
include doctors, attorneys, bankers, and law enforcement officers; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Accompanied by Tom Bohanan, who has served as |
|
scoutmaster for more than 50 years, members of Troop 8 will have a |
|
chance to tour the Capitol and learn more about the legislative |
|
process and the role that state government plays in meeting the |
|
needs of Texas and its citizens; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since its inception, Troop 8 has provided |
|
neighborhood youth an opportunity to discover and enjoy the |
|
outdoors, expand their knowledge of myriad subjects, gain valuable |
|
leadership skills, and perform significant community service; it |
|
has, in short, made the world a better place, one scout at a time; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 8 |
|
of Dallas on its 100th anniversary and commend the many individuals |
|
who have worked to support this fine organization during its |
|
century of service; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 8 as an expression of |
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
