WHEREAS, The Klein Independent School District in Harris
County is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its establishment
during the 2012-2013 school year; and
WHEREAS, Klein ISD traces its origins to a series of common
school districts that emerged from a bustling farming community
along Cypress Creek settled by German immigrants in the mid-19th
century; by 1928, five districts consolidated to form Rural High
School District Number One, and 10 years later, this 88-square-mile
area serving approximately 600 students was renamed Klein
Independent School District; for several decades, the area saw only
modest development, with most of the district primarily serving
schoolchildren from local farming and ranching families; and
WHEREAS, In the late 1960s, the opening of the Houston
Intercontinental Airport and the arrival of many oil-related
businesses to the Houston area brought rapid suburban expansion to
Klein; from 1972 to 1982, Klein ISD witnessed an unprecedented 82
percent leap in its student population, and growth has since
continued at a more gradual pace; today, the district serves some
47,000 students in 4 high schools, 9 intermediary schools, 28
elementary schools, 1 early childhood/prekindergarten center, and
  2 specialized campuses; and
WHEREAS, Through the many changes that have taken place over
the past 75 years, Klein ISD has remained committed to its
educational mission, and it has provided generations of area
residents with a strong foundation on which to build rewarding and
productive lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Klein
Independent School District and extend to its students, educators,
and staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the district as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
