R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands have |
|
significantly benefited their community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Committed to making a positive difference in the |
|
Lake Highlands area of Dallas, the club has worked to assist |
|
high-achieving students, awarding more than $500,000 in college |
|
scholarships over the past 5 years and $1 million during the past 12 |
|
years; and |
|
WHEREAS, The organization further supports education by |
|
providing tutors and mentors for local students at all grade levels |
|
and by sponsoring a number of awards for young scholars, as well as |
|
a Teacher of the Year awards program; in addition, the club provides |
|
emergency assistance to families unable to afford medical care and |
|
other necessities, and it is a key contributor to Family Compass, |
|
which was founded in 1992 by Dallas Exchange Club volunteers to |
|
prevent child abuse and neglect; and |
|
WHEREAS, On a quarterly basis, the organization honors |
|
outstanding police officers and firefighters for their service to |
|
Lake Highlands, and it confers an Unsung Hero award on those |
|
individuals who give generously of their time and talents in behalf |
|
of their fellow citizens; moreover, the Exchange Club promotes |
|
patriotism through Freedom Shrine installations at educational and |
|
social institutions, and it hosts a variety of community events, |
|
among them an Independence Day parade and carnival, the Safe |
|
Halloween Carnival, and the Lake Highlands Evening of Jazz Under |
|
the Stars; and |
|
WHEREAS, The members of the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands |
|
have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the greater good, and |
|
their accomplishments have helped make Dallas an even better place |
|
in which to live and raise a family; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands for |
|
its notable history of community service and extend to its members |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success with their important |
|
work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
