R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, The Coastal Bend Cesar Chavez Committee is |
|
|
sponsoring its annual Cesar Chavez March and celebration in Corpus |
|
|
Christi on March 23, 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Cesar Chavez devoted his life to the pursuit of |
|
|
social and economic justice for farmworkers through nonviolent |
|
|
means; he helped found the National Farm Workers Association, a |
|
|
forerunner of the United Farm Workers, and organized strikes, |
|
|
pickets, and boycotts to draw national attention to the unhealthy |
|
|
working and living conditions endured by those who tend the fields; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Coastal Bend Cesar Chavez Committee is dedicated |
|
|
to educating and inspiring generations of South Texans by |
|
|
celebrating and advancing the legacy of Cesar Chavez; the |
|
|
organization's 14th annual march coincides with its Cesar Chavez |
|
|
state holiday celebration and precedes the official Texas holiday, |
|
|
Cesar Chavez Day, on March 31, 2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By bringing the community together to pay tribute to |
|
|
the life and achievements of Cesar Chavez, the Coastal Bend Cesar |
|
|
Chavez Committee embodies the spirit of the movement he led, and it |
|
|
is indeed fitting to recognize the organization's important |
|
|
efforts; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize the Coastal Bend Cesar Chavez |
|
|
Committee's 14th annual Cesar Chavez March and celebration and |
|
|
extend to its organizers and participants best wishes for a |
|
|
memorable and enjoyable event; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
