R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Abelardo Leyva of Alpine passed away on July 18,
  2012, at the age of 79, leaving his circle of loved ones with many
  treasured memories of time spent in his company; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Terlingua on April 25, 1933, Abe Leyva was
  the son of Agustine and Jesus Leyva; he joined the United States
  Army in 1953 and earned the National Defense Service Medal, the
  United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the
  Good Conduct Medal; and
         WHEREAS, After leaving the military, Mr. Leyva worked as a
  postal carrier, and he also served his community as a Brewster
  County commissioner for more than a decade; he was a charter member
  of the Alpine Evening Lions Club and belonged to the Veterans of
  Foreign Wars; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Leyva married the love of his life, Elidia
  Gallego, in Alpine in 1956, and they shared nearly six decades
  together; the parents of two sons, Orlando G. Leyva and Abelardo
  "Ito" Leyva, the couple later welcomed into their family three
  grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and
         WHEREAS, Abe Leyva made a positive and lasting difference in
  the lives of his friends and loved ones, and he will be deeply
  missed by all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Abelardo Leyva and
  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
  Elidia Leyva; to his sons, Orlando G. Leyva and Abelardo "Ito"
  Leyva; to his brothers, Agustine Leyva, Jr., Palemon Leyva, and
  Alberto Leyva; to his sister, Beatrice Leyva; to his grandchildren,
  Cesar Leyva, Orlando Leyva, and Isela Garcia; to his
  great-grandchild, Issa Garcia; and to his other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in a memory of Abelardo
  Leyva.
