R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Jennifer Sampson of Dallas has been named a
  recipient of the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Baylor
  Alumni Association; and
         WHEREAS, One of the youngest individuals to receive this
  prestigious accolade, Ms. Sampson was recognized for her
  exceptional accomplishments as the first female chief executive
  officer of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas; she joined the
  organization in 2001 as senior vice president and chief financial
  officer, and she served as chief operating officer before her
  appointment as president and CEO in 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Sampson guided the United Way through
  substantial administrative and operational changes during her
  first year as CEO; by diversifying revenue sources and investment
  strategies, she has achieved unprecedented results, and she has
  built community confidence while focusing on a new approach to
  philanthropy that emphasizes citywide collaborations; a founding
  member of the United Way Women of Tocqueville Society, she also
  serves on the United Way Worldwide National Professional Council;
  and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Ms. Sampson has demonstrated her
  commitment to the community in numerous leadership roles; she is a
  sustaining member of the Junior League of Dallas and a member of the
  Fortune 500 Task Force, Select Cities, the International Women's
  Forum, the Business and Community Advisory Council of the Dallas
  Federal Reserve Bank Board, and the Dallas Assembly; since 2009,
  she has served on the Crystal Charity Ball Committee, and she served
  on the Cattle Baron's Ball Committee from 2001 to 2008; she has also
  served on the Baylor University Alumni Association Board of
  Directors and Executive Committee; in 2012, she was named Woman of
  the Year by the Women's Council of Dallas County; and
         WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan earned her bachelor's degree in
  business administration at Baylor University and is a certified
  public accountant; moreover, she has completed executive education
  courses through the Harvard Business School and the Kennedy School
  of Government at Harvard University; she began her career with
  Arthur Andersen in 1991 and worked with corporate clients in a
  variety of industries; and
         WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Sampson enjoys the love
  and support of her husband, Edward, and she takes great pride in her
  son, Hilton; and
         WHEREAS, Jennifer Sampson has made a positive difference in
  the lives of innumerable North Texas residents through her efforts
  in behalf of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, and her
  dedication to her community has set standards of civic engagement
  to which others may aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jennifer Sampson on her receipt of
  a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Baylor Alumni Association and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her
  important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Sampson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
