R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The San Antonio Water System has implemented |
|
creative water preservation policies that are benefiting its entire |
|
region, and these successful initiatives are gaining wide praise; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2012, SAWS received a Blue Legacy award, |
|
presented to municipal water suppliers that have made significant |
|
strides in ensuring wise water use by emphasizing conservation to |
|
meet increased demand; SAWS was commended for its strategy that |
|
emphasizes education and outreach, reasonable regulation, and |
|
financial incentives to reduce water use; the utility was also |
|
recognized for establishing a special citizen advisory council to |
|
represent ratepayers and provide feedback on fair and reasonable |
|
charges; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2011, SAWS was the recipient of a Texas |
|
Environmental Excellence Award in recognition of its Wastewater |
|
Trifecta, a project to develop environmentally beneficial uses for |
|
water, biosolids, and waste gas that are the major by-products of |
|
the city's wastewater treatment process; and |
|
WHEREAS, The cumulative effect of these and numerous other |
|
endeavors to promote water conservation has been to lower the |
|
amount of water used in the city each day; less water use has meant |
|
reduced water pumping, which has helped to protect the Edwards |
|
Aquifer and to preserve habitats for endangered species; and |
|
WHEREAS, By developing solutions that result in reduced use |
|
and conservation of water, the San Antonio Water System has |
|
demonstrated that it is a good steward of this vital yet limited |
|
resource, and it is setting an outstanding example that cities |
|
throughout the state can follow; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend SAWS for developing innovative |
|
strategies to address critical issues surrounding water shortages |
|
and extend to all those associated with the organization sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success with their important work; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the San Antonio Water System as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
