R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
  cause for celebration, and Agnes Fontenette Green of Houston is
  marking this significant milestone in her life on July 3, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1913 in New Iberia, Louisiana, to Joseph and
  Ella Fontenette, the former Agnes Fontenette grew up as the eldest
  of four children and attended Sorrell Public School; and
         WHEREAS, She married Sandies Green on October 28, 1934, and
  they became the parents of a beloved daughter, Elizabeth; with the
  passing years, Mrs. Green's family grew to include a son-in-law,
  Douglas Scott, two grandchildren, Douglas N. Scott and Barbara
  Scott-Ferguson, and three great-grandchildren, Melanie Wiley,
  Landon Scott, and Cole Scott; and
         WHEREAS, After moving to Houston in 1943, Mrs. Green was
  employed for 44 years by Mr. and Mrs. William R. Lummis, Sr., as an
  assistant, keeping house and caring for their children; she was a
  faithful member of First New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church for nearly
  six decades before joining Bethany Baptist Church in 2007, where
  she remains active in the senior Bible class and the Naomi and
  Calvary Mission Circles; and
         WHEREAS, Agnes Green is a source of wisdom and inspiration to
  all who are fortunate enough to know her, and it is indeed a
  pleasure to join in honoring this cherished centenarian on a
  century of life well lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Agnes Fontenette Green on the
  occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
  for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Green as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
