R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The death of Janice D'Aun Glass Thompson of |
|
Arlington on October 16, 2012, at the age of 72, brought a great |
|
loss to her family and many friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Shamrock on June 15, 1940, the former Janice |
|
Glass was the daughter of Herschel and Annabelle Glass; she grew up |
|
on a farm near Andice, and during high school she blossomed as a |
|
singer and actress; in 1958, she won the Best Actress title in state |
|
UIL competition; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Thompson became the devoted mother of four |
|
children, Jana, Kelly, Gerald, and John, and she instilled in them |
|
the importance of honor, faith, compassion, and a strong work |
|
ethic; she also emphasized the value of higher education, and with |
|
her encouragement, all of her offspring went on to earn advanced |
|
degrees; moreover, she was a "second mother" to many of her |
|
children's friends, and through the years, she continued to mentor |
|
and nurture those around her; and |
|
WHEREAS, At the age of 48, Ms. Thompson enrolled in college |
|
herself, and she received her bachelor's degree in political |
|
science cum laude four years later; she worked as a paralegal in |
|
Dallas and became paralegal manager for the firm of Weil, Gotschal, |
|
and Manges before retiring; and |
|
WHEREAS, Highly engaged in her community, Ms. Thompson served |
|
as president of the Arlington Civic League and of the Arlington |
|
Medical Auxiliary; she was a member of the Arlington Civic Chorus, |
|
Theatre Arlington, and Girls Inc.; in addition, she served on the |
|
board of First United Methodist Church in Arlington, and she was a |
|
member of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class and Stephen Ministry |
|
at Trinity United Methodist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Janice Thompson lived a rich and purposeful life, |
|
and those who were fortunate enough to know her will forever cherish |
|
their memories of her kindness, strength, and grace; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Janice D'Aun Glass |
|
Thompson and extend sincere condolences to the members of her |
|
family: to her children, Kelly Thompson Weeks and her husband, |
|
David, Gerald Kenneth Thompson and his wife, JoLee, and John Kevin |
|
Thompson and his wife, Patti; to her grandchildren, Tori, Trace, |
|
Meghan, Hank, Tanner, and Tucker Thompson, Dylan Weeks, and Zachary |
|
Zane "ZZ" Weeks; to the father of her children, Dr. Gerald G. |
|
Thompson, and his wife, Linda; and to her many other relatives and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House |
|
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Janice |
|
D'Aun Glass Thompson. |
