R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The city of Dallas lost a respected business leader
  and a friend to many with the passing of Vance Charles Miller of
  Dallas on February 23, 2013, at the age of 79; and
         WHEREAS, Born on October 19, 1933, in Seminole, Oklahoma,
  Vance Miller was the son of Juanita and Henry S. Miller, Jr.; he
  grew up in Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School, and
  he later earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from
  Southern Methodist University in 1954; while in college, he met
  Geraldine "Tincy" Erwin, and they married in 1956; he also served
  his country in the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of lieutenant,
  and subsequently served in the Air Force Reserve for several years;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Miller joined the family business, Henry
  S. Miller Company, in 1959; established by his grandfather in 1914,
  it was nurtured by Mr. Miller and his father into a large commercial
  and residential real estate operation; he became president of the
  company in 1970 and helped it grow into one of the largest real
  estate firms in the country; along the way, he served as a mentor to
  his employees and even encouraged a number of them to start their
  own businesses; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Miller and his father sold the company in 1983
  but remained involved in its operations as members of its board of
  directors; the Millers relaunched Henry S. Miller Co. in 1994, and
  it went on to play a major role in the development of the growing
  city; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to his hometown, Mr. Miller shared his time
  and resources with numerous civic and community organizations,
  including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and he supported several
  Republican candidates and political causes; an avid golfer, he was
  a founding member of Preston Trail Golf Club, and he could often be
  found on the links; he was known for his optimism and dry wit, and
  his penchant for colorful sayings was greatly appreciated by his
  many friends; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Miller treasured the time he spent with his
  family; he and his wife enjoyed more than 56 years together and were
  the parents of four children, Vance, Vaughn, Greg, and Cynthia, and
  they also had eight grandchildren, Nathaniel, Penny, Vaughn, Lance,
  Vance, Gigi, Wes, and Wyatt; and
         WHEREAS, Vance Miller made a meaningful difference in the
  lives of his fellow Texans, and he leaves behind a legacy that will
  continue to inspire all those who were privileged to know him; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Vance Charles
  Miller and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family:
  to his wife, Tincy Miller; to his children, Vaughn E. Miller and his
  wife, Dena, Gregory Miller and his wife, Kim, and Cynthia
  Vance-Abrams and her husband, Bob Abrams; to his grandchildren,
  Nathaniel Abrams, Penny, Vaughn, Lance, Vance Calvin, and Gigi
  Miller, and Wes and Wyatt Miller; to his sisters, Patsy Miller
  Donosky and Jacqueline Miller Stewart and her husband, Peter
  B. Stewart; to his brother, Henry S. Miller III; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Vance
  Miller.
