R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Midland High School junior Anna James won the girls |
|
|
5A state title in the one-meter diving event at the University |
|
|
Interscholastic League Swimming and Diving State Meet on February |
|
|
23, 2013, in Austin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. James amassed a total of 496.65 points to edge |
|
|
out her closest competitor by just over 7 points; her victory was |
|
|
aided by the high degree of difficulty of her dives, which included |
|
|
a front two-and-a-half pike and an inward one-and-a-half pike; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With the helpful guidance of coach Jennifer Mangum, |
|
|
Ms. James became the first athlete from the Midland Independent |
|
|
School District since 1970 to become a state champion diver; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The state title triumph continues a series of |
|
|
exceptional accomplishments for Ms. James; she competed in the U.S. |
|
|
Olympic Team Trials in June 2012, where she finished eighth in |
|
|
platform diving, and she also qualified for the World Junior |
|
|
Championships; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With her hard work and commitment to excellence, |
|
|
Anna James has established herself as one of the finest high school |
|
|
divers in the Lone Star State, and she is a source of great pride to |
|
|
her school and her community; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Anna James on winning the UIL 5A |
|
|
one-meter diving state championship and extend to her sincere best |
|
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. James as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
