R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Midland High School junior Anna James won the girls
  5A state title in the one-meter diving event at the University
  Interscholastic League Swimming and Diving State Meet on February
  23, 2013, in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. James amassed a total of 496.65 points to edge
  out her closest competitor by just over 7 points; her victory was
  aided by the high degree of difficulty of her dives, which included
  a front two-and-a-half pike and an inward one-and-a-half pike; and
         WHEREAS, With the helpful guidance of coach Jennifer Mangum,
  Ms. James became the first athlete from the Midland Independent
  School District since 1970 to become a state champion diver; and
         WHEREAS, The state title triumph continues a series of
  exceptional accomplishments for Ms. James; she competed in the U.S.
  Olympic Team Trials in June 2012, where she finished eighth in
  platform diving, and she also qualified for the World Junior
  Championships; and
         WHEREAS, With her hard work and commitment to excellence,
  Anna James has established herself as one of the finest high school
  divers in the Lone Star State, and she is a source of great pride to
  her school and her community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Anna James on winning the UIL 5A
  one-meter diving state championship and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. James as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
