R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, United States Army Staff Sergeant Juan D. Carbajal |
|
III of El Paso has deservedly received the Purple Heart for injuries |
|
sustained during his courageous service in Iraq; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1782 during the Revolutionary War, |
|
the Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the president of the |
|
United States to members of the armed forces who are wounded in |
|
conflict with an enemy force or while held by an enemy force as a |
|
prisoner of war; and |
|
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Carbajal was serving with the 2nd |
|
Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, in September |
|
2007, when the vehicle he was commanding was struck by a roadside |
|
bomb; and |
|
WHEREAS, Though he was seriously wounded in action, this |
|
brave Texan continues to devote his life and skills to the service |
|
of his country; today, he is stationed at Fort Bliss, where he is a |
|
member of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, and |
|
serves as the brigade command's financial specialist, engineer, and |
|
environmental compliance officer; and |
|
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to Juan |
|
Carbajal and to every member of this nation's military, for they are |
|
called on to bear great burdens, and their sacrifices are truly |
|
beyond measure; through his bravery, professionalism, and devotion |
|
to duty, Staff Sergeant Carbajal embodies the highest ideals of the |
|
U.S. armed forces, and he has earned the lasting respect and |
|
appreciation of all his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Staff Sergeant Juan D. Carbajal III for |
|
his receipt of the Purple Heart; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Staff Sergeant Carbajal as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
