R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Susie Byrd is concluding her distinguished tenure |
|
with the El Paso City Council in 2013, following eight years of |
|
service representing the citizens of District 2; and |
|
WHEREAS, Growing up in the Sun City, Ms. Byrd attended |
|
Crocket Elementary, Bassett Middle School, and Austin High, where |
|
she was a student leader and a member of the championship soccer |
|
team; she continued her record of service while studying at Emory |
|
University in Atlanta, earning recognition for her volunteerism in |
|
the community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Byrd returned to El Paso and went on to work with |
|
her family as the director of marketing and publicity for Cinco |
|
Puntos Press; she helped to run the successful campaign of Mayor |
|
Raymond Caballero before joining his staff as an executive |
|
assistant on issues of economic development and housing; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2005, she was elected to represent District 2 on |
|
the El Paso City Council; reelected in 2009, she has championed |
|
downtown and central city revitalization, historic preservation, |
|
economic development, improved air and environmental quality, |
|
affordable housing, and green space initiatives; and |
|
WHEREAS, Susie Byrd's dedication, skill, and commitment to |
|
the growth and welfare of El Paso have greatly benefited her fellow |
|
residents, and she may indeed take great pride in her many |
|
achievements as a civic leader; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor El Paso City Council Representative Susie |
|
Byrd for her service to the citizens of District 2 and extend to her |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Byrd as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
