R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Bob Hoy of El Paso was named a recipient of the Texas |
|
Automobile Dealers Association's Legend Award, only the 12th |
|
individual ever to be so honored, in recognition of the role he has |
|
played in the state's automobile industry and in his community; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of El Paso, Mr. Hoy completed his law degree |
|
at The University of Texas at Austin; he was a practicing attorney |
|
for 15 years before his interest in business led him to purchase a |
|
Volkswagen dealership in 1973; and |
|
WHEREAS, Most dealerships of the day handled only one make of |
|
car, but Mr. Hoy experimented by adding Peugeot and International |
|
Harvester products; in 1979, he acquired a Mercedes-Benz |
|
dealership, and through the years, the company continued to expand; |
|
today, the Hoy-Fox Automotive Group sells Toyota, Scion, Lexus, |
|
Infiniti, Acura, and Volvo cars, as well as Volkswagen and |
|
Mercedes-Benz; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1999, Mr. Hoy retired from day-to-day operations, |
|
but he chose to remain involved in the company's charitable giving; |
|
he has long been engaged in the community, having served on the city |
|
council from 1969 to 1971; in addition, he chaired the boards of |
|
University Medical Center and Providence Memorial Hospital, and |
|
when the latter was sold, he became chair of the Paso del Norte |
|
Health Foundation; he was also a founding member and chair of the |
|
Business Leadership and Research Council, which eventually became |
|
the Paso del Norte Group; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bob Hoy has made significant contributions to the |
|
business community and to civic life over the course of many |
|
decades, and this prestigious accolade is a reflection of the high |
|
regard he enjoys in both spheres; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Bob Hoy on his receipt of the Texas |
|
Automobile Dealers Association's Legend Award and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Hoy as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
