R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Sue Melton of Waco was sworn in as a member of the
  Texas State Board of Education on January 30, 2013, in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Elected to serve as the District 14 representative,
  Ms. Melton has been named vice chair of the board's committee on
  instruction; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Melton will draw on 36 years of experience as a
  public school teacher in Texas; she has taught in the Ross and West
  school districts and received the Golden Apple Award for Teaching
  Excellence; Ms. Melton first worked with children through her
  church's vacation Bible school and day-care center, and she earned
  a bachelor's degree in education from Baylor University; and
         WHEREAS, Active in a number of organizations, Ms. Melton has
  served as president of the Association of Texas Professional
  Educators and has been elected to the second vice president
  position in the Waco-McLennan County Retired Teachers Association
  and to the state nominating committee in the Texas Retired Teachers
  Association; and
         WHEREAS, She serves the greater community as the worship
  leader and choir director at Primrose Drive Baptist Church and also
  volunteers with youth groups; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout her career as an educator, Sue Melton has
  demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing young Texans
  with a sound academic foundation on which to build, and the
  experience and insight she has gained in the classroom will serve
  her well in her new post; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Sue Melton on her election to the
  Texas State Board of Education and extend to her sincere best wishes
  for a successful tenure; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Melton as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
