R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Ally Smith, a senior at Stephenville High School,
  has been selected as a 2013 Texas All-State Choir member by the
  Texas Music Educators Association, and this fine showing indeed
  merits special recognition; and
         WHEREAS, The All-State designation is the highest honor that
  a Texas music student can receive; more than 55,000 students from
  across the state audition for about 1,500 places in one of 13
  All-State bands, orchestras, and choirs; those who win the coveted
  recognition attend the TMEA clinic in San Antonio, where they
  participate in three days of intense rehearsals and perform in
  concert; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of James and Kimber Smith, Ally Smith
  has been a member of the Stephenville High School Choir for four
  years and currently serves as its president; she has participated
  in three Sweepstakes Varsity Women's and two Sweepstakes Varsity
  Mixed Choirs and has been a three-time soloist at the Texas State
  Solo-Ensemble competition, where she received recognition as an
  "Outstanding Soloist" during her sophomore year; she is a
  three-year member of the Region 7 TMEA All-Region Choir, and this
  year marks the second time she has qualified for the All-State Mixed
  Choir; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to participating in vocal ensembles at
  school, Ms. Smith takes private voice lessons at Tarleton State
  University from Professor Heather Hawk, showing impressive
  commitment to her craft; and
         WHEREAS, This young Texan is a source of pride to her family,
  teachers, and fellow students, and her accomplishments are truly
  worthy of commendation; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Ally Smith on her selection as a
  member of the 2013 Texas Music Educators Association All-State
  Choir and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
