R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The 80th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed a |
|
special occasion, and Joan Eleanor Turman of Austin marked this |
|
significant milestone in her life on February 28, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Rockford, Illinois, in 1933, the former Joan |
|
Conn is the daughter of Darlene and Paul Conn; she spent her early |
|
years in Illinois, and her family eventually moved to San |
|
Francisco, California; and |
|
WHEREAS, She met her first husband, U.S. Army Lieutenant |
|
Albert J. Fern, Jr., at the Presidio military base near the Golden |
|
Gate Bridge; they became the parents of four children, Susan, Paul, |
|
Catherine, and Charlene, and she devoted herself to raising them |
|
while taking on many responsibilities as an officer's wife at |
|
military posts across the United States and Europe; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following the end of her first marriage, she was |
|
joined in matrimony to the Honorable James A. Turman, who served as |
|
speaker of the Texas House of Representatives from 1961 to 1963; |
|
they have shared a fulfilling relationship of more than three |
|
decades; today, Mrs. Turman takes pride in a fine family that has |
|
grown to include five grandchildren, Jennifer, John, Kara, Ashley, |
|
and Elliot, and she continues to set an example of strong faith and |
|
good humor; and |
|
WHEREAS, Blessed with a host of loved ones, Joan Turman is a |
|
source of joy and inspiration to all who have the great privilege of |
|
knowing her and sharing in the richness of her life; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Joan Eleanor Turman on her 80th |
|
birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Turman as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
