R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The seventh-grade language arts class of Martin
  Middle School in Corpus Christi is hosting the unveiling of a bronze
  bust honoring the late Enrique "Kiki" Camarena on March 26, 2013;
  and
         WHEREAS, Through the school's Inquiries of Change program,
  students in the class read a variety of publications about history
  and current events; they were particularly inspired by learning
  about the origins of Red Ribbon Week, a nationwide drug awareness
  program founded in tribute to Mr. Camarena, an agent in the Drug
  Enforcement Administration who was killed in the line of duty in
  1985; and
         WHEREAS, Class members decided to purchase a bust of Mr.
  Camarena to celebrate his contributions and the positive impact of
  Red Ribbon Week; under the guidance of their teachers, Jessica
  Almaraz and Mary Mora, they wrote to local businesses seeking
  donations, and they have held fund-raisers for the project as well;
  they have succeeded in their efforts, and Mika Camarena, Mr.
  Camarena's widow, is being flown in from California to attend the
  ceremony; and
         WHEREAS, These dynamic young Texans have demonstrated a
  commendable interest in the people and events that shape the world
  around them, and their exceptional dedication to a worthy cause
  sets an example to which others may aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the seventh-grade language arts class at
  Martin Middle School for its civic engagement and extend to the
  students and their teachers sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the class as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
