R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Eastland lost a greatly admired |
|
Texan with the tragic death of firefighter Gregory Mack Simmons, |
|
who died in the line of duty while fighting a wildfire on April 15, |
|
2011, at the age of 50; and |
|
WHEREAS, A Dallas native, Greg Simmons was born to Harvey |
|
Mack Simmons and Thelma Inez Simmons on December 26, 1960; drawn to |
|
public service, Mr. Simmons volunteered with the Sachse Fire |
|
Department for 10 years before moving to Eastland, where he served |
|
an additional 11 years with the Eastland Volunteer Fire Department; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, He married the former Carrie Songer on August 16, |
|
1986, and during more than a quarter-century together, they shared |
|
many happy times and became the parents of two beloved daughters, |
|
Kateland and Karley; Mr. Simmons was a dedicated family man, and he |
|
enthusiastically supported his children in all their endeavors, |
|
from academics to athletics and band; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Simmons co-owned the business Allegro Mobility |
|
with his wife and her parents; well respected as a businessman, he |
|
was committed to providing the best possible service to his |
|
customers, who were often elderly or disabled; moreover, he was an |
|
active member of the community and a valued participant in numerous |
|
social and civic events in Eastland; and |
|
WHEREAS, Greg Simmons lived a dynamic and purposeful life, |
|
and memories of this fine man will be forever treasured by all those |
|
who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gregory Mack Simmons |
|
and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Greg |
|
Simmons. |
