R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the International Code Council, along
  with local, state, and federal officials, help create and implement
  the highest quality codes to protect the buildings in which we live,
  learn, work, worship, and play, and building safety and fire
  prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders, laborers,
  and others in the construction industry are vigilant in their
  efforts to ensure that our structures are safe; and
         WHEREAS, The council's International Codes are the most
  widely adopted building safety, energy, and fire prevention codes
  in the nation; used by most cities, counties, and states, these
  modern building codes include safeguards to protect the public from
  natural disasters, including hurricanes, tornadoes, snowstorms,
  wildfires, and earthquakes; and
         WHEREAS, During Building Safety Month, the International
  Code Council is bringing public attention to the critical role that
  local code officials play in preventing injuries and deaths from
  fires and accidents; and
         WHEREAS, The theme for this year's Building Safety Month is
  "Code Officials Keep You Safe"; the campaign encourages all
  Americans to learn more about the importance of green and resilient
  building, pool, spa, and hot tub safety, backyard safety, and new
  technologies in the construction industry; and
         WHEREAS, The safety and stability of our buildings is
  critically important, and Building Safety Month brings much-needed
  attention to the professionals who provide the essential services
  of implementing the International Codes and protecting our lives
  and property; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize May 2013 as Building Safety Month.
