R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been enhanced |
|
|
by a great and enduring love, J. C. and Charm Norris of Mineola |
|
|
celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on November 29, 2012; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, J. C. Norris and the former Charm Moseley met while |
|
|
attending the College of Marshall, and they were united in |
|
|
matrimony at a ceremony held in the home of their college dean in |
|
|
1942; a few months later, in February 1943, Dr. Norris answered his |
|
|
country's call to duty and joined the United States Air Force; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He went on to pursue a career in optometry, and the |
|
|
couple moved back to Mrs. Norris's hometown of Mineola when the |
|
|
opportunity arose to buy a local practice; Dr. Norris worked as an |
|
|
optometrist at Mineola Eyecare for nearly five decades, and |
|
|
Mrs. Norris assisted in the business as a bookkeeper; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, their family has grown to include |
|
|
two daughters, Suzanne Phelps and Patricia McClenny, as well as |
|
|
four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, Dr. and |
|
|
Mrs. Norris have long been valued congregants of First Baptist |
|
|
Church; for the 22 years since his retirement, Dr. Norris has also |
|
|
been affiliated with the Meredith Foundation, now serving as its |
|
|
chair; Mrs. Norris was active with many school organizations and is |
|
|
currently a member of the Twentieth Century Club; the pair enjoy |
|
|
traveling and taking cruises together; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, While innumerable changes have taken place in the |
|
|
world during the past seven decades, this devoted husband and wife |
|
|
have remained constant in their commitment to each other, and the |
|
|
strength of their love has enabled them to meet life's challenges |
|
|
and opportunities with grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate J. C. and Charm Norris on their |
|
|
70th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. and Mrs. Norris as an expression of high regard by |
|
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
