R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan truly merits |
|
special recognition, and Ross Mallette of Lake Fork marked this |
|
notable milestone on January 6, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in 1913 in Nebraska, Mr. Mallette was raised on |
|
farms there and in Minnesota and Iowa; in 1936, he married Helen |
|
Overman, with whom he shared many happy years, and his family has |
|
since grown to include children, grandchildren, |
|
great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Up until World War II, Mr. Mallette managed three |
|
Iowa farms and saw them through the Great Depression; he took up |
|
welding during the war, repairing B-17 airplanes at the Sioux City |
|
air base in Iowa, and later worked in a variety of occupations, |
|
including welding, construction, sales, and school maintenance; he |
|
retired in 1977; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Mallette resided in Arkansas for a time before |
|
moving to Texas; since 2005, he has lived in Lake Fork with his |
|
daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Cary Collins; and |
|
WHEREAS, The wisdom and experience of centenarians are a |
|
source of enduring inspiration, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor |
|
Ross Mallette for having joined an elite group of Texans who can |
|
claim 100 years of meaningful achievements and wonderful memories; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Ross Mallette on his 100th birthday |
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Mallette as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
