H.R. No. 1087
         WHEREAS, The city of Emory lost one of its most admired
  residents with the passing of Ivan Alexander, Jr., on February 14,
  2013, at the age of 80; and
         WHEREAS, Ivan Alexander was born in Emory on May 16, 1932; he
  graduated from Emory High School in 1949 and went on to earn his
  bachelor's degree from East Texas State Teachers College; after
  serving his country as a second lieutenant in the United States Air
  Force, he continued his studies at The University of Texas School of
  Law, where he earned a degree in 1959; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Alexander subsequently began his career as an
  attorney, opening a private practice in Emory in 1962; he later
  served as the county attorney for Rains County for seven years, and
  in 1982 he was made a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation; along
  the way, he founded AAA Abstract, which includes Elliott and
  Waldron Abstract and Title Company in Canton and Rains County
  Abstract in Emory; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed professional greatly contributed to
  his community, serving as president of such organizations as Rains
  County Economic Growth, the Rains County Fair Association, and the
  Emory Lions Club; he was among those who organized the Emory
  Volunteer Fire Department, and he also helped establish a
  scholarship fund for Rains Independent School District students and
  shared his time and talents with the local historical society; he
  earned numerous recognitions for his charitable work, among them
  the Emory Lions Club Citizen of the Year award and the Rains County
  Chamber of Commerce Meritorious Service Award; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Alexander enjoyed the love
  and support of his wife, Connie Alexander; moreover, he was the
  proud father of three children, Lisa, George, and Philip, and the
  doting grandfather of five; and
         WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Ivan Alexander
  will always remember the way he touched their lives with his keen
  intellect, his delightful sense of humor, and his strong faith, and
  he will forever hold a treasured place in their hearts; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ivan Alexander,
  Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
  his wife, Connie Alexander; to his children, Lisa Mitchell and her
  husband, Dick, George Ivan Alexander and his wife, Robin, and
  Philip Alexander and his wife, Cherry; to his grandchildren,
  Lauren, Abbie, Katie, Blake, and George; and to his other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ivan
  Alexander, Jr.
