R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Robert Bear has been honored with the 2012 Service
  Award from Knights of Columbus Council No. 10393 in Hitchcock; and
         WHEREAS, A valued parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic
  Church and an esteemed member of the Knights of Columbus, Mr. Bear
  has served as Grand Knight for four years and has been named Knight
  of the Year five different times; his myriad contributions to the
  council include helping to secure the construction of the new
  Knights of Columbus Hall; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bear has also given freely of his time and
  talents to a number of community organizations; he currently serves
  as a member of the Santa Fe, Texas, Education Foundation Board of
  Directors and as president of the Santa Fe Area Historical
  Foundation, an organization in which he previously held the office
  of secretary; in addition, he is a member of the Veterans of Foreign
  Wars and the Sons of Confederate Veterans; deeply attached to the
  area where he has such strong roots and close ties, Mr. Bear has
  also published four booklets on local history; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Galveston in 1937, Mr. Bear captained the
  football team, played baseball and basketball, and excelled at
  track while a student at Santa Fe High School; he graduated in 1956
  and joined the U.S. Army, serving for six years and spending time in
  Korea and other parts of Asia; following his discharge from the
  military, he worked for Water Control and Improvement District No.
  8 for three years before joining Monsanto as a supervisor in its
  maintenance department, a position he held for three decades until
  his retirement; and
         WHEREAS, Robert Bear and his wife, Sara, exchanged their
  wedding vows in 1959 and have shared more than half a century of
  marriage; over the years, they have been blessed with a fine family
  that includes four children and eight grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, In appreciation of his long record of civic
  engagement, Mr. Bear was named an Outstanding Alumnus of Santa Fe
  High School in 2011 and was selected by the Santa Fe Chamber of
  Commerce as its 2011 Man of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, Through his tireless endeavors, this esteemed Texan
  has greatly benefited both his church and his community and
  enriched the lives of many fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Robert Bear on his receipt of the
  2012 Service Award from Knights of Columbus Council No. 10393 and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Bear as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
