R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The grand opening of the Del Mar College Hangar at |
|
the Corpus Christi International Airport was celebrated on February |
|
28, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, Formerly called Crescent Hangar, the facility was |
|
renovated to enhance instruction and expand enrollment in the |
|
college's aviation maintenance technology program; the repurposing |
|
was funded by more than $1 million from city sales tax revenue |
|
earmarked for job training and growth, along with $2 million from |
|
the college; and |
|
WHEREAS, Del Mar College Hangar has more than 14,000 square |
|
feet for aircraft storage and nearly 2,500 square feet of classroom |
|
and office space, including a satellite office for the college's |
|
Small Business Development Center; with room for a dozen aircraft, |
|
it currently houses five, among them two T-34C Turbomentors donated |
|
by the United States Navy's Chief of Naval Air Training; and |
|
WHEREAS, In this new facility, students will interact with |
|
airport staff as part of their training; some will team with air |
|
traffic control tower staff, while others will engage with the |
|
airport's fire department; the AMT program offers certification and |
|
associate degrees in both airframe and power plant applied |
|
technology; and |
|
WHEREAS, The renovation of Del Mar College Hangar will help |
|
more young Texans acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to |
|
build a career in a growing field, and its operation represents an |
|
exciting new chapter for the school's aviation maintenance |
|
technology program; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the opening of Del Mar College |
|
Hangar and commend all those involved in the effort to bring this |
|
important project to fruition; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Del Mar College as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
