R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, East Arlington Renewal marked its 30th anniversary
  in 2012, and it is indeed appropriate to honor the members of this
  exceptional organization for their efforts in behalf of the
  community; and
         WHEREAS, East Arlington Renewal was formally established in
  1982 by a group of industrious homeowners and business leaders with
  the goal of enhancing the area's residential and retail
  environment; one of their first big projects was an organized
  cleanup that generated so much public enthusiasm that the city
  adopted it as a regular semiannual event, and in 2012, the group
  spearheaded an antilitter campaign using the slogan "See
  Litter . . . Pick It Up"; EAR has also successfully advocated for
  the establishment of a department that would enforce property
  maintenance codes and for the demolition of abandoned buildings,
  prompting city officials to develop policies dealing with
  substandard structures and to launch a nuisance abatement program;
  and
         WHEREAS, The energetic volunteers of EAR tackled the issue of
  public safety in the 1990s, and their work was instrumental in the
  creation of a satellite police center and the subsequent initiation
  of a community-based law enforcement program; in recent years, they
  have teamed up with police to intervene at residential complexes
  where criminal activity is prevalent and have worked to promote
  safety and tranquility; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout its history, EAR has worked in concert
  with city officials and has also marshaled support from local
  churches, businesses, and first responders to raise awareness on
  issues that affect quality of life in the community; other
  initiatives have included a 2009 book drive, in which the group
  collected more than 13,000 books and donated cash in support of the
  local branch library; and
         WHEREAS, The members of East Arlington Renewal have made
  vital contributions to the community through beautification and
  revitalization, and in so doing, they have made a positive
  difference in the lives of countless area Texans; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of the founding
  of East Arlington Renewal and extend to all those associated with
  the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
