R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Midway Middle School Boys Choir performed on |
|
|
March 13 and 14, 2013, at the national convention of the American |
|
|
Choral Directors Association held in Dallas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Chosen out of more than 300 groups from across the |
|
|
nation, the Midway choir was the only public school boys choir to |
|
|
receive a coveted invitation to perform at the convention, where |
|
|
they joined just 14 other groups, including professional choirs |
|
|
from four countries; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Midway boys choir, directed by Tammy Benton, was |
|
|
showcased during concerts at the Winspear Opera House and the |
|
|
Meyerson Symphony Center; its program, a shining example of vocal |
|
|
mastery, represented several genres, with Italian, German, and |
|
|
Latin texts, and a closing medley from the musical "Chicago"; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These gifted young Texans have developed their |
|
|
remarkable talents through perseverance and many hours of practice, |
|
|
and they can take justifiable pride in their accomplishments; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate members of the Midway Middle School |
|
|
Boys Choir on the selection of the choir to perform at the national |
|
|
convention of the American Choral Directors Association and extend |
|
|
to the Midway students sincere best wishes for the future; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the choir as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
