R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of Faith Christian Academy |
|
in El Paso brought its season to a triumphant close by winning the |
|
Texas Christian Athletic League 3A state championship on March 2, |
|
2013, at Forrester Fieldhouse in Dallas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Facing the FEAST Patriots team of San Antonio in the |
|
title contest, the Lions found themselves in a hard-fought game, |
|
but they used their precise shooting and fierce defensive press to |
|
pull away down the stretch; the 86-74 victory gave Faith Christian |
|
its second consecutive TCAL championship; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Lions were led by Ray Barreno, who scored 25 |
|
points, Rene Esparza and Guillermo Galaviz, who each added 16 |
|
points, and Ricardo Saldana, who chipped in with 13; Mr. Saldana was |
|
named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, and Mr. Barreno and |
|
Mr. Esparza received All-Tournament honors; and |
|
WHEREAS, With its win in the 3A finals, Faith Christian |
|
finished the season with a stellar record of 25 wins and just one |
|
loss and was voted the No. 1 team among small private schools in the |
|
Texas Association of Basketball Coaches/Tex Preps High School |
|
Basketball Rankings; and |
|
WHEREAS, Guided by head coach Ana Carroll, the Faith |
|
Christian Academy Lions demonstrated outstanding teamwork and an |
|
unwavering commitment to excellence as they successfully defended |
|
the school's state title, and these dedicated student-athletes may |
|
indeed take justifiable pride in their accomplishment; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Faith Christian Academy boys' |
|
basketball team on winning the 2013 Texas Christian Athletic League |
|
3A state championship and commend the team's players, coaches, and |
|
staff for a job well done; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
