R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Thomas Young Foster of Village Mills, an esteemed
  educator and friend to many, passed away on February 21, 2013, at
  the age of 81; and
         WHEREAS, The son of James and Zelta Mae Foster, Thomas Foster
  was born on August 8, 1931, in Huntington; he earned his bachelor's
  degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1952 and began
  teaching math and science for the Big Sandy Independent School
  District that same year; answering his country's call to duty, he
  served in the United States Army during the Korean War and then
  returned to Big Sandy ISD, where he worked until his passing; and
         WHEREAS, During his remarkable 61-year tenure, "Doc" Foster
  contributed to the district in many roles; he coached girls'
  basketball for nearly 30 years, leading teams to win district
  titles, participate in regional tournaments, and compete in state
  playoffs, and he also worked with the volleyball team until 1986; he
  served as principal of Big Sandy High School for 22 years, until he
  was named superintendent of the district, and in 1993, he returned
  to the classroom; he was dedicated to helping his junior high and
  high school students succeed and tutored many of them before and
  after school; along the way, he obtained his master's degree from
  Sam Houston State University and participated in a graduate program
  at the University of Wisconsin; in 2013, Big Sandy ISD named the
  high school gymnasium in his honor; and
         WHEREAS, An inspiring leader who enriched the lives of
  countless young Texans, Thomas Foster will be deeply missed, but
  the compassion, dedication, and joy with which he lived his life
  will long be remembered by all who had the good fortune to know him;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Thomas Young Foster
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  sons, Kevin Foster and his wife, Mandy, and Roland Foster and his
  wife, Veronica; to his grandchildren, Cole, Kaden, Kye, Matthew,
  Colt, Elizabeth, Harrison, Victoria, and Brendan Foster and
  Jennifer Selman; to his sister, Fleta Wyatt; to his brothers, Joe
  Foster and his wife, Mary, Gary Foster, and Kenny Foster; and to his
  other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Thomas
  Foster.
