R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS,
  Harlee Lanier, a student at Judson Early College
  Academy in Live Oak, qualified to compete in the state final of the
  Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and
  the Poetry Foundation, the Poetry Out Loud contest encourages
  students to master public speaking skills, build self-confidence,
  and learn about their literary heritage by memorizing and reciting
  poetry; the competition has grown every year since its inception in
  2006, and more than 365,000 young people participated in it in
  2011-2012; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Lanier was one of only 18 Texas students who
  earned the privilege to compete for the state title; the event,
  hosted by the Texas Commission on the Arts, took place on February
  23, 2013, at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin and
  was hosted by award-winning poet Naomi Shihab Nye; and
         WHEREAS, In her advancement to the state level of Poetry Out
  Loud, Harlee Lanier demonstrated talent, poise, and exceptional
  dedication, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her notable
  accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Harlee Lanier on her participation
  in the state final of the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation
  Contest and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Lanier as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
