R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, The State of Texas lost a greatly admired citizen |
|
|
with the passing of Frank Thompson, Jr., of Houston on March 22, |
|
|
2013; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, Mr. Thompson |
|
|
earned his bachelor's degree from Southern University and his |
|
|
master's degree from Howard University; he distinguished himself |
|
|
throughout a notable career with Brown and Root, once one of the |
|
|
largest engineering firms in the country, and he belonged to a |
|
|
number of professional associations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson was dedicated to making a positive |
|
|
difference in his community; in addition to his service as |
|
|
president of the Houston Gardens Civic Association, he was vice |
|
|
chair of the board of directors of the Hope Center for Troubled |
|
|
Youth and the Exploring Division of Urban Scouting for the Boy |
|
|
Scouts of America, as well as senior vice president of the Houston |
|
|
Works for the Job Training Partnership Council; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Respected for his efforts in behalf of his fellow |
|
|
citizens, Mr. Thompson was appointed chair of the Texas Commission |
|
|
on Human Rights by Governor Mark White, and he was later named to |
|
|
the Defense Economic Adjustment Council by Governor George W. Bush; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson was active in the Democratic Party, |
|
|
which he served as parliamentarian and as a member of the state |
|
|
executive committee; moreover, he served as chair of elections for |
|
|
Harris County, where he was also a member of the democratic |
|
|
executive committee; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect of a |
|
|
man's life, some individuals leave their unmistakable mark on the |
|
|
world as they move through it, and Frank Thompson's leadership and |
|
|
vision will continue to inspire others for years to come; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frank Thompson, |
|
|
Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to all those who mourn his passing; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frank |
|
|
Thompson, Jr. |
