  H.R. No. 1134
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The State of Texas lost a greatly admired citizen
  with the passing of Frank Thompson, Jr., of Houston on March 22,
  2013; and
         WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, Mr. Thompson
  earned his bachelor's degree from Southern University and his
  master's degree from Howard University; he distinguished himself
  throughout a notable career with Brown and Root, once one of the
  largest engineering firms in the country, and he belonged to a
  number of professional associations; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson was dedicated to making a positive
  difference in his community; in addition to his service as
  president of the Houston Gardens Civic Association, he was vice
  chair of the board of directors of the Hope Center for Troubled
  Youth and the Exploring Division of Urban Scouting for the Boy
  Scouts of America, as well as senior vice president of the Houston
  Works for the Job Training Partnership Council; and
         WHEREAS, Respected for his efforts in behalf of his fellow
  citizens, Mr. Thompson was appointed chair of the Texas Commission
  on Human Rights by Governor Mark White, and he was later named to
  the Defense Economic Adjustment Council by Governor George W. Bush;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson was active in the Democratic Party,
  which he served as parliamentarian and as a member of the state
  executive committee; moreover, he served as chair of elections for
  Harris County, where he was also a member of the democratic
  executive committee; and
         WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect of a
  man's life, some individuals leave their unmistakable mark on the
  world as they move through it, and Frank Thompson's leadership and
  vision will continue to inspire others for years to come; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frank Thompson,
  Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to all those who mourn his passing;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frank
  Thompson, Jr.
