R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Duncanville High School girls' basketball team
  added to the school's rich tradition of excellence on the hardwood
  by winning the University Interscholastic League 5A state
  championship on March 2, 2013, at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin;
  and
         WHEREAS, The victory in the title game of the state
  tournament capped a remarkable season in which the Pantherettes
  finished with a perfect record of 42-0 and claimed their second
  consecutive state crown and the eighth in school history; the
  team's winning streak now stands at an astounding 70 games; and
         WHEREAS, Under the guidance of head coach Cathy Self-Morgan,
  Duncanville powered through the postseason with commanding wins
  over Killeen, Hurst Bell, Cedar Hill, Arlington Bowie, and Coronado
  High Schools to earn a trip to the state tournament; the team's
  margin of victory in its first five playoff games was never less
  than 19 points and exceeded 30 points for three of the contests; and
         WHEREAS, After topping League City Clear Springs in the
  semifinals, the Pantherettes matched up against Cibolo Steele High
  School for the championship; Duncanville led wire to wire and
  secured a dominant 59-36 victory to hoist the trophy yet again;
  senior Kiara Perry led the way with 20 points and 13 rebounds and
  was named the game's Most Valuable Player; she was joined on the
  All-Tournament Team by junior Ariel Atkins, who contributed 13
  points and 7 rebounds; and
         WHEREAS, With their superb play throughout the 2012-2013
  season, the Duncanville Pantherettes have earned a place among the
  top teams in the nation as well as comparisons to the finest girls'
  squads in the history of Texas high school basketball, and their
  accomplishments will be a source of pride for the school and its
  supporters for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Duncanville High School girls'
  basketball team on winning the UIL 5A state championship and extend
  to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
