R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, National Public Works Week, held each year during
  the third week of May, is a celebration of the men and women who
  provide and maintain the infrastructure and services on which all
  citizens rely; and
         WHEREAS, Clean running water, reliable solid waste
  collection, effective storm drains and sewers, sturdy roads and
  bridges, and safe buildings are but a few of the components of the
  municipal framework that contributes to our excellent quality of
  life; and
         WHEREAS, Ensuring the efficient operation of countless
  systems throughout the state and nation, committed public works
  specialists plan, build, operate, and maintain these vital
  services; and
         WHEREAS, The Southeast Branch, Texas Chapter, American
  Public Works Association is one of eight Lone Star affiliates that
  offer professional development, advocacy, and outreach activities
  to support the people, agencies, and organizations that improve our
  communities; and
         WHEREAS, National Public Works Week offers residents of the
  Lone Star State and beyond an occasion to acknowledge and
  appreciate the importance of public works in our cities and towns;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize May 19-25, 2013, as National Public
  Works Week and honor members of the Southeast Branch, Texas
  Chapter, American Public Works Association and other dedicated
  public works professionals in the Lone Star State for their
  important contributions.
