R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, In recognition of his outstanding civic leadership,
  Art Vandaveer has been named the 2012 Man of the Year by the
  Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, An involved member of the community, Mr. Vandaveer
  has contributed to the chamber by serving on its board of directors
  and by chairing several committees; in addition, he has chaired
  shrimp boil events for the Brazosport Rotary Club and served with
  Junior Achievement of Brazoria County; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Vandaveer has also been active with Lake Jackson
  Emergency Medical Services and as a parishioner at St. Michael's
  Catholic Church; in addition, he has helped many local
  entrepreneurs to succeed through his job as the vice president of
  business lending and special assets at Texas Dow Employees Credit
  Union; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Brazoria County, Mr. Vandaveer was
  raised in Freeport and graduated from Brazosport High School and
  Texas A&M University; he was commissioned as an officer in the
  United States Marine Corps in 1968 and deployed to Vietnam the
  following year; his heroic service to his country was recognized
  with the Purple Heart and the Silver Star; after concluding his
  military career, he lived for a time in Houston before returning to
  Brazoria County in 1975; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Vandaveer enjoys the
  love and support of his wife, Lynne; the couple have been married
  for 44 years, and they take great pride in their three children and
  six grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, The residents of the Brazosport area have benefited
  in numerous ways from Art Vandaveer's commitment to the community,
  and he is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Art Vandaveer on his selection as
  the 2012 Man of the Year by the Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Vandaveer as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
