R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, U.S. Navy Lieutenant Raul David Jimenez, who died |
|
during a training mission on January 27, 2006, at the age of 31, was |
|
posthumously inducted into the Brazosport Independent School |
|
District Wall of Fame in 2012 for his admirable service to his |
|
country and his community; and |
|
WHEREAS, A standout student at Brazosport High School in |
|
Freeport, David Jimenez participated in student council and in |
|
band, played baseball, and in his position at cornerback, helped |
|
the football team to win a bi-district title in 1992; he graduated |
|
seventh in his class in 1993, earning scholarships for his athletic |
|
and academic abilities, and then attended the United States Naval |
|
Academy, where he received a bachelor's degree in aerospace |
|
engineering; after flight training in Pensacola, Florida, he |
|
achieved a lifelong dream when he was awarded the golden wings of a |
|
naval aviator; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Jimenez deployed for service as a |
|
helicopter pilot in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation |
|
Iraqi Freedom; repeatedly recognized for his efforts, he received |
|
the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine |
|
Corps Achievement Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service |
|
and Expeditionary Medals, as well as numerous letters of |
|
commendation; and |
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding officer returned regularly to the |
|
Brazoria County area to see family, and during those occasions, he |
|
would take time to visit Brazosport schools and encourage students |
|
to study hard and plan for the future; and |
|
WHEREAS, At his passing, Lieutenant Jimenez left behind loved |
|
ones that included his wife, Ana Laura Jimenez, whom he married in |
|
2004, his mother and stepfather, Elva and R. J. Verrett, and his |
|
sister, Debbie Jimenez; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Lieutenant David Jimenez is deeply missed, |
|
memories of his bravery, resolve, and generosity endure in the |
|
hearts of all who knew him, and this recognition from Brazosport ISD |
|
serves as a lasting reminder of the meaningful accomplishments he |
|
realized in the course of his years on this earth; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Navy Lieutenant |
|
Raul David Jimenez and commemorate his induction into the |
|
Brazosport Independent School District Wall of Fame; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House |
|
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of |
|
Lieutenant Raul David Jimenez. |
