R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce named Sharon
  Rogers of Lake Jackson its 2012 Woman of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, A native Texan, Sharon Rogers attended Brazosport
  High School, Wharton County Junior College, and Brazosport College;
  she worked as the manager of community and government affairs at
  BASF Corporation, retiring after four decades of service; and
         WHEREAS, Long active in her community, Ms. Rogers currently
  serves as vice chair of the Brazosport College Board of Regents and
  as a member of the board of the Brazosport College Foundation; she
  has also served as vice president of the Brazosport Regional Health
  System Board of Directors and as board president for the Brazoria
  County Historical Museum and for Habitat for Humanity of Southern
  Brazoria County; in addition, she has held leadership roles with
  the Brazosport Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Brazoria
  County, Hospice Care Team, the Brazos Historical Society, the 100
  Club of Brazoria County, and the Brazoria County Youth Home; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Rogers has further been involved with the
  chamber of commerce Chairman's Circle, the Brazosport Health
  Foundation Power of the Purse Steering Team, the True to Life
  Ministries Operation Backpack, and the Gathering Place Interfaith
  Ministries; moreover, she is a Paul Harris Fellow of the Brazosport
  Rotary Club; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has received numerous accolades
  for her many contributions to the Brazosport area, including the
  2013 Philanthropist of the Year award from the Community Foundation
  of Brazoria County, the Outstanding Volunteer award from the
  Brazosport Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Stephen F. Austin
  Leadership Award from the Brazoria County Historical Museum; and
         WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Rogers enjoys the love and
  support of her husband, David "Speedy" Rogers; and
         WHEREAS, Sharon Rogers embodies the spirit of public
  engagement that is the lifeblood of American communities, and she
  is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Sharon Rogers on her selection as
  the 2012 Woman of the Year by the Brazosport Area Chamber of
  Commerce and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Rogers as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
