R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, An athlete, entrepreneur, and advocate for the
  children in his Houston community, Dan Pastorini has made
  significant contributions to the Lone Star State; and
         WHEREAS, Born in California, Dan Pastorini arrived in Texas
  in 1971 when he was chosen by the National Football League's Houston
  Oilers as the third overall draft pick; the Pro Bowl quarterback
  helped lead the team to two American Football Conference
  championship games and in doing so, ushered in the "Luv Ya Blue"
  years, when the Oilers captured the heart of the entire city; known
  as one of the toughest men in the league, Mr. Pastorini played
  through the pain of injuries that included a punctured lung and
  broken ribs; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Pastorini was traded to the Oakland Raiders
  following the 1979 season and also played for the Los Angeles Rams
  and Philadelphia Eagles; after retiring from the league in 1983, he
  found another outlet for his competitive spirit in drag racing,
  where he became an icon, beating some of the sport's best drivers;
  and
         WHEREAS, Inspired by his parents, restaurateurs who owned and
  operated Pastorini's Longhorn in Sonora, California, for 37 years,
  Mr. Pastorini decided to pursue his culinary interests and formed
  Dan Pastorini's Quality Foods; headquartered in Houston, the
  company sells a variety of products and seasonings; and
         WHEREAS, An ardent advocate for former NFL players, Mr.
  Pastorini is also involved with many local charities and serves as a
  board member of the Be An Angel organization, which works to improve
  the quality of life for children with multiple disabilities and
  profound deafness; and
         WHEREAS, Although Dan Pastorini was not born in the Lone Star
  State, Houston is proud to call him one of its own, and it is most
  fitting to extend honorary Texan status to this prominent member of
  the Houston community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby officially recognize Dan Pastorini as an
  honorary Texan, with all the rights and privileges accorded those
  individuals native to the Lone Star State; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dan Pastorini as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
