R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Julie Barrera of Tuloso-Midway High School in |
|
Corpus Christi distinguished herself with her powerlifting |
|
achievements during 2013, earning a trip to the state meet and |
|
placing third among the 4A competitors in her weight class; and |
|
WHEREAS, In order to qualify for state, an athlete must prove |
|
her abilities at the regional meet by finishing in first or second |
|
place or by lifting a specified total weight; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Barrera took part in the Region 5 Division 1 |
|
event on March 2 in Weslaco; she placed second in the 123-pound |
|
weight class by lifting a total of 755 pounds, and her 330-pound |
|
deadlift was the best in her group; and |
|
WHEREAS, Advancing to the Texas High School Women's |
|
Powerlifting Association State Meet in Corpus Christi on March 15, |
|
Ms. Barrera turned in an exceptional performance; she lifted 285 |
|
pounds on the squat and 145 pounds on the bench press and once again |
|
had the top deadlift, in this instance hoisting 340 pounds; with an |
|
overall tally of 770 pounds, she claimed a spot on the podium as the |
|
state bronze medal winner; and |
|
WHEREAS, By qualifying for a berth at the state meet and |
|
proving herself one of the top lifters in her weight class, Julie |
|
Barrera has furthered her school's reputation for athletic |
|
excellence, and she may indeed take pride in her outstanding |
|
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Julie Barrera on her third-place |
|
finish at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association |
|
State Meet and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Barrera as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
