R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Banquete Junior High School students Brandi Pena, |
|
Briana Pena, and Kimberly Chapa have been selected to represent |
|
their school at the Texas History Day state fair in Austin on May |
|
3-4, 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, In keeping with the theme of this year's |
|
competition, "Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events," |
|
the three eighth graders created a project focusing on Dr. Hector P. |
|
Garcia; a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and a World |
|
War II veteran, Dr. Garcia founded the American GI Forum to improve |
|
veterans benefits, fight segregation, and contribute to the |
|
community; the students entered their project in the exhibits |
|
category at the Coastal Bend Regional History Fair on March 2 and |
|
became one of two exhibit groups chosen to advance to the state |
|
competition; and |
|
WHEREAS, Brandi, Briana, and Kimberly worked on their project |
|
in a research class taught this year by language arts instructor |
|
Denise Rhodes; together with another group from their class, they |
|
became the first students from their school to compete at the |
|
regional level of Texas History Day; and |
|
WHEREAS, Many hours of hard work have paid off for these |
|
talented young Texans, and they are a source of great pride to their |
|
families and their school; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Brandi Pena, Briana Pena, and |
|
Kimberly Chapa on representing Banquete Junior High School at the |
|
2013 Texas History Day state fair in Austin and extend to them |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared |
|
for Brandi, Briana, and Kimberly as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
